How to Choose a Photographer

  • Choose someone with whom you feel comfortable.
  • Is the photographer flexible, and willing to "listen" to your ideas?
  • Choose someone you trust to be there . . . on time!
  • Are you comfortable with the photographer's level of experience?
  • Will the photographer provide some references you can contact?
  • Check out the photographer's portfolio.
    • Do you like the photographic "style?"
    • Is the lighting good?
    • Are the pictures in focus?
    • Which "effects" do you like?
  • Look for an unobtrusive photographer; someone you'll forget is there.
  • Does the photographer belong to reputable trade organizations?
  • Find out exactly what services are included in the photographer's package.
    • How many photos does the package include?
    • What equipment does the photographer use?
    • Do you want digital and/or film? Color and/or black and white?
    • How many hours and/or rolls of film are included in the package?
    • What does the photographer charge for extra hours or film?
    • Will the photographer take pictures before, during, and after the ceremony, and the reception?
    • Does the photographer provide a suggested list of "suggested" photographs?
    • Will the photographer give you the negatives so you can make your own reprints?
  • Last, but not least, shop around. Prices and talent vary widely.
